If I live within the VA Iowa City Health Care System service area, who makes my
transportation arrangements?
If you receive your primary medical care at the VA Iowa City Health Care System, the Iowa City
Transplant Nurse Coordinator will schedule a convenient time to begin the
transplant evaluation process for you. Veterans living in the VA Iowa City Health Care System service area are responsible for making their own lodging and transportation
arrangements to and from Iowa City.
If I live outside the VA Iowa City Health Care System service area, who makes my
transportation arrangements?
If you do not receive your primary medical care at the VA Iowa City Health Care System Medical Center, your
local VA Travel Office is responsible for coordinating and providing travel
arrangements for you and your support person. If you have a potential donor,
travel arrangements will be coordinated and provided by your local VA for your
donor and your donor's support person.
How will I know what our travel arrangements will be?
Your local VA Travel Office will make your flight reservations and provide
you with a copy of your flight itinerary. The Iowa City Transplant Clerk will mail you information on arrangements that have been made for transporting
you from the airport to the Heartland Inn. The Transplant Clerk also
will mail you a copy of your motel voucher which includes your motel
confirmation number. In addition, you will receive the schedule for the free
shuttle service between the Heartland Inn and the VA Iowa City Health Care System Medical Center.
At which airport will I be landing, and how will I get from the airport to
the motel?
The Eastern Iowa Airport is located in Cedar Rapids, approximately 21 miles
north of the Iowa City/Coralville area. The VA Iowa City Health Care System will arrange and pay
for transportation from the airport to the Heartland Inn. Persons other than the
patient, donor, and support person will need to arrange and pay for their own
transportation. The airport offers a shuttle service to the Iowa City/Coralville
