The VA Iowa City Health Care System Transplant Program contracts with the Heartland Inn in
Coralville, Iowa, to provide lodging for the potential recipient, donor, and
designated support person(s). The Heartland Inn is located less than a mile
west of the VA Iowa City Health Care System Medical Center.
If I live outside the VA Iowa City Health Care System service area, where will I
stay?
The Transplant Program contracts with the Heartland Inn to provide lodging
for those recipients, donors, and designated support person(s) who live outside the VA Iowa City Health Care System service area. Any other family members must make their own
transportation and lodging arrangements, and may select any motel. Check the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau website for a complete listing of accommodations in Iowa City and Coralville.
What services are provided by the Heartland Inn?
The Heartland Inn offers 169 guest rooms with cable TV, HBO, ESPN, and free
local calls. Services include an indoor swimming pool, elevator, Internet
access, and free shuttle service to and from the VA medical center. For additional

How do we get from the Heartland Inn to the VA Iowa City Health Care System Medical Center and back?
The Heartland Inn offers a courtesy shuttle service to the VA medical center at
regularly scheduled times from 5:50 a.m. until 8:20 p.m. This service is free
of charge to all registered guests and their families. If you have questions,
contact the Heartland Inn front desk staff or one of their shuttle drivers.
How will I know when to come to the VA Iowa City Health Care System Medical Center?
The Transplant Clerk will mail you complete instructions prior to your
on-site visit.
Is the cost of meals included in the on-site visit?
No, the cost of meals is not included. The Heartland Inn offers a
complimentary 24-hour coffee bar, expanded continental breakfast, and light
evening snacks. On Wednesday evenings around 5:00 p.m., the Manager's Social
features a light complimentary meal. You will need to bring enough money
with you to pay for the rest of your meals, as well as any incidental and/or
unexpected expenses.
Are there any restaurants within walking distance of the Heartland Inn?
There are several fast-food restaurants, as well as others specializing in
pizza, steaks, seafood, and ethnic cuisine, including Chinese, Mexican, and
Thai.
